Few weeks after being re-elected as councilor of Elstree and Borehamwood boroughs, Cynthia Alcantara-Barker, the first ever Filipina politician in the United Kingdom was nominated and eventually won Deputy Mayor of Hertsmere, a large government district in Hertfordshire, England.
Then in Fashion Week held in London, Cynthia met up and talked with Filipino fashion designer Renee Salud on the prospect of making Philippine design and textile more prominent abroad.
She also encourages the integration of ethnic minorities into British mainstream society.
Cynthia is also one of the Board of Trustees of Elstree and Borehamwood Museum, a repository of artifacts of the UK as well as the memorabilia of more than one hundred years of British cinema.
She also oversees Elstree Studios, home of blockbuster movies “Indiana Jones,” “Star Wars,” “Harry Potter,” and hit TV shows “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire,” “Big Brother,” among others.
